I am attempting to make it so when you mouse over a cryout column you can click anywhere on it to go to the link selected for that cryout column. So far my attempts at modifying the widget.php and frontpage.php files have failed.
When i try to load widget.php on a functions.php file for my child theme the entire page does not render.
Any pointers? Am I trying to do something outside of what can be done with a child theme?
to clarify, the widget.php and frontpage.php i was modifying were in my child theme folders. I can get this to work by modifying the parent theme’s widget.php file but I want a solution that will survive the client updating the theme without telling me.
On these cryout column widgets, is there any way to make the link relative? If I make the link “tag/featured”, say, the widget turns the link into “http://tag/featured”.

Nevermind. I was omitting my leading slash “/” on the link.
