Google is getting increasingly particular about Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS). The front page of our website is reported as having a high CLS, caused mainly by the image carousel near the top loading late during page load and displacing the page elements below it. You can see the lower elements jump during loading.
I have managed to improve CLS in other older WordPress themes by adding a temporary transparent placeholder image on the front page, but can’t see any simple way to do anything like this in Tempera. I’ve also tried using absolute positioning in CSS but this is tricky and tends to misplace the lower elements on the page and become fiddly for different screen sizes.
Any suggestions as to a simple way that I can reserve the right amount of space for the carousel during the early stages of page loading?
Thanks 🙂
David.
