I’m not sure if this is a problem with WordPress or the theme code as I am not running many plugins on this site at all. However, am using the JetPack plugin through Publicize.
What I’m experiencing is that when I posted an article on the 17th of October. Publicized published the correct featured image of the post to both Facebook & G+ in the normal format of sharing a post as you would per Facebook (Large image, text at bottom)
Today, I wrote the same article on two different blog sites and did the same thing. On one blog site (which is using a simple theme) the Publicize feature worked but when publishing through this theme… for some reason, Facebook is grabbing the “Header Image” and putting it as the image of the post.
It is pulling in this image rather than the featured image of the post. I recently added the “page header” image as well…. ever since then… it’s pulling in this image.
In case of any kind of social sharing I recommend using a SEO plugin (like Yoast’s) which includes advanced social sharing options (such as selecting which image to be picked up)
Themes accepted in the WordPress repository are forbidden to include any kind of SEO functionality.
