Blog template not working

I have tried to set my page to the blog template but all I’m getting is the following

“Apologies, but no results were found for the requested archive. Perhaps searching will help find a related post.”

I see that most users make the simple error of not choosing the correct template but why am I getting this? I have put a bit of text into the visual editor but I still get the same message. Am I missing something really obvious? Is this in fact what I should be seeing as I have no real posts as of yet? But if so why is text I entered not showing up??
