    Using mantra, I set my site to be responsive and when I make the browser smaller, the header hides behind the menu. http://www.stlouisdj.com

    You’re using the relative dimensions.
    Responsiveness is enabled by turning on “Mobile view”. Enable that option and see how it behaves then.
