What are the recommended dimensions for Featured Images for the Kahuna Theme?

The recommended featured image sizes are those set through the theme options:
– height is directly configurable;
– width is computed based on site width and posts layout;
Images are normally resized and cropped to size, so if the originals have a very different aspect ratio from the set values, then more cropping will occur.
Cropping position can be adjusted or disabled entirely (with the possible side effect of blurry or distorted images, depending on how numbers match up).If you like our creations, help us share by rating them on WordPress.org.

I’ve tried uploading the image shown here at several different sizes and croppings, but I can’t get the part of the image that I want to appear.
Here’s a link to what a featured image on a page looks like currently; I’d prefer to see the cat’s actual face and more of its body, but I can’t figure out a way to bump the image down in the featured image space: https://imgur.com/a/BqB6dIF
@megmo, header images work slightly differently to featured images. They don’t have the same options and are generated/displayed depending on the header image configuration options. Adjusting the focus area of the image can only be done on a case-by-case basis, with custom CSS (as it depends on the images used, the specific header configuration and target screen sizes).

I’m confused about how they work differently; when building the page, I select “upload featured image” and the image I upload appears in the page header. Maybe header isn’t the right word; it’s the image that appears behind the page title above where the page content begins, but below the site’s top navigation. Is that the header?
Anyway, it’s kind of frustrating to not be able to set the image to be the same across browsers without custom CSS. Is there an option to better manage these featured images/header images in the Plus option? I’ve been evaluating the theme with regard to buying Plus, but if I can’t set my images to display correctly that will be a huge disadvantage.
