I just found out these days that the BREIN chief himself, Tim Kuik, has decided to use Zombie Apocalypse as a theme for his personal website – www.timkuik.com (I’m not gonna make this a link since it’s not worth it)
Although this fact might make others proud, I can only sit in disgust. When you start writing free software, free web-related works, and any other kind of open source (or free license) creations, you do think about all those who would benefit from your work, who would use your creations and your programs. But I don’t know how many actually think about the possibility that your work could be used by somebody you do not accept, approve or even dislike or hate.
Let’s not forget that BREIN is the dutch analog of US-based RIAA and MPAA, horrible entities that call themselves “protectors of copyright and authors’ interests”. Among others, they hunt down petty filesharers in their attempts to increase their income.
I am appalled by Mr. Kuik’s choice – of using an open source platform – WordPress- and a free theme – to promote his personal website, the website of a man with (probably) a ‘beautiful’ income from the organization that he runs – a man who, in accordance with his own opinions, should have used copyrighted/paid works for his website.
I can only hope that no others like him will choose our work as a frontend for their word.
