Mantra 1.9.0 has been released

Praise the Lord! and pass the ammunition… (thank you, Mr. Tankian).

Mantra 1.9.0 is out into the wild. The WordPress team approved it and it is now available for download.

Hopefully all most some of the bugs from 1.8.9 and 1.8.9.1 have been fixed so you can now go back to enjoying the extraordinary theme Mantra is (in its good days)…

In any case, being a major update, 1.9.0 comes packed with some neat new features, but I will not spoil the surprise as I am sure Mr. Kay will be updating this post to list the awesome new additions…

(a couple of hours later)

Kay here. Thank you Zed for the wonderful caring realist intro. I’ll continue with the new additions.

The new additions are:

  • The export and import options. This has been by far the most time and thought consuming feature ever integrated into Mantra and it’s actually still in a test phase. Again we are counting on you to change that. Use and abuse this feature and let us know when it breaks. We’ll patch it up.
  • Google fonts. Finally you can use them. Which ones? All of them! Just type the font family you want to use under text settings and that’s it. It’s really that easy. You are now awarded unlimited typographical power.
  • New favicon uploader. It should now work as initially intended and should be more intuitive as it uses the WordPress media uploader. Go check it out!
  • RSS news feed about Mantra … directly into the Mantra admin section. You can now see the latest Mantra news directly from the admin section. Imagine that! You’ll know everything there is to know about your favorite WordPress theme… and about Mantra. See what I did there?
  • Made the mobile view optional. So now you can choose whether you want your theme to be responsive or not. You’ll find the option in the Misc Settings and it’s disabled by default as we’re still working on a couple of issues.
  • Updated some HTML tags to HTML5. Changed a few function names.

For 1.9.1 we’re working on implementing posts’ data into the slider and columns. We’re also documenting ourselves on the new WP 3.4 version that brings a nice little addition to theme lovers.

Mantra is a clean, highly configurable and totally free WordPress theme. For more info check out the theme's page.

  1. I am new to WordPress and was very pleased with how easily I was able to get Mantra to look great, imported my old blog, etc. My only problem is with an events plugin I found (Events Organiser – the British spelling is deliberate). The two templates for this plugin make the content of an event take up residence off to the right of the right sidebar and I’m not versed enough to fix this. Any ideas? Thank you!

  2. Love this theme. I think it might just be the best WordPress theme available. So easy to customize.

Just a word of warning, if you have customized the templates, back them up before installing the update. I didn’t think to do this and lost all my customized templates, that I had just finished working on 5 minutes earlier. Oops.

To be clear, the update actually overwrote the whole template directory and deleted the custom templates. Maybe this always happens with an update, I don’t know.

BTW, the custom templates I use allow me to create a page of posts based on specified categories. It’s pretty easy to implement and I’ve already fixed it. I think it would be a cool feature to add to the theme itself.

  3. I found another issue in the mantra theme which if resloved makes it much better.
In magazine format (muti column) in LTR languages it is natural to show the newst posts in the left column. But in RTL languages the natural flow is from right to left. However in a LTR seting, still it shows the newst posts in the left column.
Is there any way to correct this?

  4. After updating to the latest update, the color for the Header (Banner and Menu) Background Color has disappeared. I assigned a color(white) but the changes do not apply. It used to before I updated to 1.9.2.1.

      1. I reverted my header.php file back to a previous version and that seems to have resolved the issue. I will wait for the next version and see if it is resolved in the master code they release. I went with the latest 1.8X (pre 1.9) header.php.

        1. If you don’t mind me asking, how did you revert the header.php file to a previous version? I update to the latest version of Mantra and I’m still having this problem. Messes up the whole site.

  5. hi
i want my mantra’s home with 3 columns and rest with 2 columns ,becoz i designing a magazine template.i added home.php to directory.and copied content from index.php
    please help me !!

  6. In “Post Information Settings” the options “Post Date” and “Post Author” are set to “SHOW”.
But there is no info about that in the posts.

  7. Hi,
in settings, Post Information Settings, I set:
“Post Date” and “Post Author” to SHOW.

But in the postings, I didint see any info about post-author or post-date.
    (hmia.yourweb.de)

      1. Thank you for the info.

Hm, the bar looks rather big, especially in the magazin-excerpts.
        1. Can i hide the “Post Informations” in the excerpts, and only show the infos in the full-post-view?
        2. Can I remove the graphical bar/border/frame around the text?
        3. I guess, translating the english “By [author-name]” has to be translated like all template-localization manually.

        1. 1. Nope, although it’s a good idea.
2.Yes there is an option in the Mantra settings
          3. Yap, although again it’s a good idea maybe we’ll implement quick translations for that in the future.

  8. There is a huge bug in Mantra! I use .htaccess to protect my wp-admin area. Now every time you load the main site you get asked for username and password. This is due to the file /wp-admin/css/farbtastic.css.
I confirmed this by disabling all plug ins: No change.
Then I switched to the default “Twenty Eleven” theme. No more username/password question! There is a bug in Mantra please fix ASAP.

  9. Guys, I love this theme and I’m hoping you can help me with an issue I’ve noticed since installing the latest update. I Enabled the Presentation Page option to show as my homepage (which it did until the update) – now, when I go to my “blog” page I see the presentation page (instead of my blog post) and my “home” page is blank except for a “Leave Reply” field. Thanks!

    1. I see that now the blog page is alright while the home page is sill missing. What did you do to fix the blog page?

Also go to the WordPress admin , Settings > Discussion and make you sure you didin’t select a static page as your home page.

Good luck and waiting for your reply.

      1. Kay, thanks for the suggestion. I changed the option for the static page and that did the trick.

I was able to get the blog page back online by disabling the presentation page option.

        Thanks again for your help.

  10. Any kind of comment-filter always seem to “eat” my comment with questions.
Now, i tried to publish my long comment with questions 3 times. When posting the questions, this site reloads, when I try to post it again, WP shows me the error, that this is a duplicate comment, hm. Maybe it contains a “blocked” word?
Please read my questions here; you can answer here, too, when you like:

  11. Hi!

Trying to post this the 3rd time …
I’m just on creating a cms-style-website with WP-Mantra, my temporary develope-version is avaiable on
    hmia.yourweb.de

    My questions:
    1.
On the top of very post, I have a link to the previous/next post, with an untranslated english text:
    «Previous post link Hello-World-Title ……… Hello-World-Title Next post link»
How can I remove the words ” Previous post link” & ” Next post link “?

    2.
I use magazin-excerpt. The H1-Headline are much to big. How to reduce the font-size of the H1-Headlines in magazin-excerpt?

    3.
When I select “gallery” as template in my post, my excerpt on the main-page shows the text: “This gallery contains X photos”. Is there any easy way to remove the text, or translate this to german?

    4.
I use a 3-column-layout (2 sidebar, 1 context column). On some pages, I would like to hide the right sidebar, to increase the space for the content. Is there any page-template for this?

    Thank you very much!

    1. As seen on the WordPress forum:
      “Hi!
      1. We will fix that in the next theme update. (version 1.9.2.2)

      2. You have an option in the Mantra Settings page under Text Options to change the post title font size.

      3. Here’s a general link about translating WP themes. http://www.solostream.com/blog/tutorials/translate-wordpress-theme/
We’ll post a more detailed on in the future.

      4. No such page templates are available yet because of the level of customization Mantra offers. But we are working on it for release in a future version.”

    1. In mantra-setting, open graphics-settings.
      then swtich:

      Title and Description (show/hide)
Hide or show your blog’s Title and Description in the header (recommended if you have a custom header image with text).

      to off.

  12. Hi… After the new release, my presentation page has disappeared. It is enabled in the settings, and has worked fine until now. Has other people experienced this? and can sombody help?

  13. hi,
great work…thanks for making this free.
i want the featured image size to be 790*350.and did it from the setting page.but it’s only 670 in the home page i tried some css but not working please help…

  14. I’ve got an error message.
    >[Sat Jun 23 14:42:12 2012] [error] [client zzz.yyy.xxx.www] PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_theme() in /var/www/html/wp-content/themes/mantra/functions.php on line 905

  15. Just updated from mantra 1.9.0 to 1.9.2 and the site is destroyed. The culprit is in “Layout” the slider for “Content / Sidebar Width” is broken and site width is only like 10px wide. I’ve cleared caches and tried 4 different browsers.

  16. I had an inactive old mantra theme, and today I upgraded to the 1.9 version and activayed the new theme. However I see a problem that don’t know how to solve it.

The left column is not shown beside the main area, rather it shows at the end of the main area (steel on the left). I also saw another strange problem. It doesn’t matter if I slect the left or right sidebar. It always show the left side bar at athe lower leftcorner of the page!

    1. I see you are using Right to left. Can you remember the Mantra version you were using before the update?
Anyway you should reset the settings to default (there is a button in the Mantra Settings page) and it should all be back to normal.

      1. Thank you for your help, but it didn’t solve the problem.
I think I need to edit some code in the templates. But don’t know what is going wrong.
Actually as I said before, it doesn’t matter if I select right or left sidebar layouts. For both, sidebar show as is seen on the blog.

          1. Hi again.

By next update you mean latest 1.9.2.1 or some upcoming update? This theme is a very nice theme, but unfortunately for now I have to go back to my original working theme before this is fixed.
            Thanks

          2. Thank You,

            It works now.
Only one thing remains that I have to do myself but need help. How I can trnaslte English words (like Tags, comments, etc.) that appear in the page? Are these in the main code, or saved in a special file?

  17. Hi.
I posted a few quetions here, appr. 24 hours ago.
Since I cant see them here in the comments, and I cant post them again (WP says, its a duplicate comment): Is my posting rejected by an anti-spam-addon?

  18. I really like your theme! Was wondering one thing, though. Is it possible to have javascript in the footer that is customized in the Graphics setting? I have tried it and it seems to just take it out.

  19. Hi!
I’m just on creating a cms-style-website with WP-Mantra. I collected all my questions the last days. My css-knowledges are very limited, sorry. Linked above you see a URL to this (german) site.

  20. Hello,

I sent you a message a while back asking about how the presentation page deals with SEO in the context of setting meta tags etc and whether it works with plugins like the Yoast SEO plugin. You said you’d look into it.

Just wondered whether you you had an answer on this yet?

  21. Can I make a couple of requests – 1) in the index page link the featured image back to the article and 2) allow the choice, again on the index page, to sort articles by date or alphabetically, etc. Those are the two main edits I need to make to the code after each update. Other than that, THANK YOU for the great theme!!

  22. Thanks for your efforts, guys!
Just found an annoying bug in 1.9.0:
After updating from 1.8.3 the Mantra theme settings don’t appear collapsed, but all subfolders open. I cannot change anything. When I save the settings, the presentation page is broken. You can only see some strange content in the center of the screen. This bug can only be solve by a complete restore of tdata and database. by the way, after upgrading the bottom of the theme settings page keeps saying “version 1.8.3”, although the plugn itself says 1.9.0.
    Anything I can do??

    1. What version of WP are you using?
Could you paste the text of the strange content that appears in the center of the screen? Also could you provide a link to your site?

      1. Thanks, Kay!
        WP: 3.4
I cannot paste the text, because I am glad that my site is working again. There was no other text, but my original presentation page appeared extremly shrunk in the center of the page.

        1. I see you are now using version 1.8.6? You couldn’t get version 1.9.0 to work?
Don’t worry about the text that says version 1.8.3 that’s still experimental.

          Great looking site btw.

          1. Yes, I cannot upgrade to version 1.9.0. When I try to upgrade, at the first glance everything seems to be okay. But when I open the Mantra settings page, this menu does not appear collapsed, but all subfolders appear open. In addition, I cannot change anything. The text of the settings appears slightly mixed up. When I try to save settings or reset to default, the presentation page will be broken. I have no other chance to restore the page but make a full restore of my data per FTP and to import the saved SQL database.

          2. I tried to update from 1.8.6 to 1.9.2.1 The update itself worked, but after activation the same problem appeared so that I had to restore the data and the database. Meanwhile I am afraid that I will have to stay with 1.8.6 forever or will have to rebuild my whole site. 🙁
Kay, if you don’t mind I would not hesitate to make you a temporary admin.
A new detail I have notices: After the update the presentation page is disabled, but is shown corrupt as I wrote before (about 10 inches in the centre). When I try to enable it, it will return to diabled by itself.

          3. Hi Thokra!
Please go to the Support page on this site and use the form to create a support ticket. You can write all login data there since only we will see it.
We will have a look inside your WP if that’s alright.

      1. Hi,
I updated the theme and since then the presentation page is not appearing I tried to re do the whole thing but still it just does not get enabled on the site. Is there a way you can help me on this. One more thing if this information can help you to address my issue in spite of updating to the latest version; in the mantra settings page it displays as “Mantra v. 1.8.3 by Cryout Creations”
        Thanks and regards,
        Pramodh
