Wow it happened all so fast we dind’t even have time to create a post log for 1.7.7, that 1.8.0 made its way into the spotlight.
So we’ll do a post for both.
Mantra 1.7.7
– Fixed a weird bug that’s been…ahh… bugging us since the begining of Mantra. The bug made the hide/show post meta settings not work in certain conditions. All good now.
– Mantra now gives you the option to make your header image clickable and link to your main page. You’ll find that option in the Miscellaneous settings.
– A new ( and Mantra’s first) upload input – and it’s for uploading your favicon. Give it a try… also found in the Miscellaneous settings.
Mantra 1.8.0
– Added a few more social icons… to a toal of 24. That’s final. We won’t be adding any more. We’re considering making an upload button for custom ones but don’t hold your breaths.
– We improved the favicon uploader with a disable/enable setting.
– We added an option to hide the meta bar under post headers altogether. No more meta info, no more grey area. Not even white space. Nothing.
– And the piece du resitance and also the reason for the 1.8 jump is the long time comming relative dimensions. You can now choose between the 2 types of dimensions: ABSOLUTE – in pixels (px) – the ones you’ve come to know so well and RELATIVE – in percentages (%), relative to the browser’s dimensions.
The new relative dimensions are still in some sort of a beta state. We tested them a lot in our controlled enviroment but we’d like you to give them a try as well.
Keep us updated and we’ll keep you updated!
I think Mantra is stupendous! I have a problem which is probably not connected to the theme at all. On my posts I get a “mouse over related posts” item. Do I want this? NO. I do not have a plugin installed that could be connected and I do not know how it started at all. WordPress forums were absolutely no help, they got all snippy because the Mantra theme is “not released under GPL”
Do you have any suggestions? Maybe it is a secret WordPress feature – I’m running WP 3.3.1
Thanks.
Pat.
Hi. That “feature” is neither theme related nor WordPress related. One of your plugins is adding it, but I cannot pinpoint which one.
Try disabling your plugins one by one and check after each change to see if that “Related Links” is still there.
Thanks for the advice on turning the main content area a different colour than white. I have searched the code and cannot find where to add the piece of code you suggested putting in to achieve this. I know this is a simple question but I are unable to do this, I really would be appreciative if you could show me where to place this code.
Thanks so very much.
Aaron
Hi Aaron!
Mantra has a set of customization settings. They’re found in your Admin Section under Appearance then Mantra Settings.
There look under Miscellaneous Settings and insert your code in the Custom CSS field then press Save Settings.
I loved this theme!! notice the LOVED!!! SOOOO here’s my story, I am sitting here writing an article on my blog a nice long article (actually a tutorial) and I save the draft and have a peek at what it looks like so far, and all my widgets are gone!! I mean EVERY ONE OF THEM!! Not only did all the widgets disappear, but it didn’t even put them to INACTIVE. The theme completely deleted my widgets!! Sucks!!! I had the bottom footer fill of customized stuff, and my side bars as well.
GUESS what I have to start over now!! BUT I WON’T be using your theme again!!!
Thanks for having loved Mantra. We all know how easy love can turn into hatred once rejected.
And just so you know Mantra cannot delete widgets. There isn’t a single line of code in it that even remotely touches the creation or addition of widgets. That’s all default WordPress behaviour.
Anyway I see you’re still using Mantra. Are you falling for it all over again?
I wish to change the color of the main column.
Mantra wasn’t conceived with the main content area anything but white.
But if you really want (i see you’re hard working on editing the theme) this would help in the custom CSS area:
#forbottom {
background: -this is where you type your color-;
}
Be sure to disable text-shadows and not use any sidebar bullets as they’re not transparent.
Good luck!
Really like what you all are doing with this. The favicon uploader and the ease of making the header a link is awesome. Keep up the good work…I’ll likely be putting in a donation soon 🙂
Hi guys,
Excellent update, though it seems that the last item in the menu list will now always wrap around to the next line. I’ve tried reducing the menu to three items (so that there’s no chance it’s due to spacing) just to be sure.
Any ideas or suggestions are more than welcome!
Thanks!
Could you give us a link so we can see exactly what you mean?
Thank you for the amazing theme! I love all the options. Just one problem: I can’t get any widgets to appear in the second sidebar. I have three widgets installed in Third Widget Area – Sidebar 2, and the layout set to have 2 widget columns, but nothing appears in the second one. Any ideas? Thank you so much!
(I emailed about this already, but it seemed like it would be a good idea to comment in case anyone else is having the same issue.)
Yes and thanks a lot for the feedback. Other people have reported the issue and the problem will be fixed in the next Mantra version (1.8.1).
Aye-yie-yie. I did an update from 1.6.5 and suddenly everything was screwed up. Formatting was wonky on home page, and clicking on any other page would briefly show the page and then switch to a blank white page with something about “stats” trying to load. Then it would quit; nothing else would happen, and I would have to try to get back in via my “back” button. I was able to reload a backup from yesterday from my BlueHost C-Panel and all is well again — theme is back to 1.6.5. I’m leaving it that way! Okay. I know this is not really asking a question and not really giving enough information to answer one if I were asking. I should have read the notes about what to do before updating. I don’t understand the “caching” part of the warnings. I know just enough to be dangerous here. 🙂 I do love me some Mantra theme, though. Thank you for all of your hard work.
Hi Sarah!
Most of the issues you mention do not sound like Mantra related.
It might be that once Mantra is updated to 1.8.0 some incompatibilities with other plugins emerge.
If you can ( and still have a backup of 1.6.5) there are 2 things you should do:
– Update Mantra again and then disable all plugins and see what happens.
– After the update, you have a Default Settings button. Try clicking on that once and check the theme afterwards.
Good luck and let us know how it works out.
