Your site behaves as if the cropping option is not enabled (all thumbnails are different sizes). Was the checkbox checked when you uploaded the images to your site?
If you’ve enabled it while the image files were already present in your media library, you will need to regenerate thumbnails for the crop option to have effect.

@skpManiac: we’ve updated the text to indicate the correct location of the option, but if you’re using the theme since the old text was used WordPress has saved it and still uses it as the option value.

@Joanne: if you’re using Fluida, that’s where the option is. For some of our other themes, the footer text field is located elsewhere.

Featured images will be used as header image (if the option is enabled) in single post/page views. They are not displayed inside the content of posts or pages (that includes custom post types).

The text uses the general text color while the link uses the first accent color (both are configurable site-wide in the theme options).

The footer background is independently configurable so the best option would be to set it to a colour that works with the site-wide text and link colors.

2) Comments plugins should simply replace WordPress’ built-in comments functionality. This is not something dependent on theme.

3) The social icons in Fluida are intended to link to your social profiles. The social icons (or buttons) that are normally added to the content are normally used to share that content on social networks and as such work differently.
For plugin functionality you’d get better answers from the plugin’s documentation or from the plugin’s WordPress.org forums or its site.

The layout uses several elements layered on top of each other. From your description it is not clear to me which should be transparent and which one is the final background layer.

I cannot reproduce any social menu issues on our test sites (with Fluida 1.5.2.1).
Please double check that the socials locations are enabled in the theme’s options – General > Social Icons (beside assigning a menu to the social menu navigation).

That hyphen is the separator between your site title and tagline, which the theme normally displays in the title tag but which you left empty in WordPress’ general settings.

Either fill in the title and tagline in the settings or use a SEO plugin to customize the title that your site should display to browsers on the homepage.

Nirvana can display either the site title, the logo or none of them. It cannot display both the logo and the site title simultaneously (this is a feature we’ve added in our newer themes only).

An alternative would be to include your logo in the header image and then display the title on top.
The theme does provide some control over the title’s placement (using the header left/top margin options), but this workaround may need some additional CSS to make it work for all browsers and screen sizes.

Nirvana displays featured images in posts lists (blog, categories, archives, search results). It does not display the featured images in single views (single post or single page).

If you’re looking to display the featured image in the header in single views, check that the appropriate option (under the theme’s Featured Image options section) is enabled.

The posts’ featured images size is configurable in the theme’s Featured Images options section (in the theme’s settings page – Appearance > Nirvana Settings).
If you haven’t changed these, the default values are 250 pixels width and 150 pixels height.

WordPress is capable of automatically generating crops/resizes to these values when uploading files to the media library if you use larger images so there is no real need to use images of exact size. If the cropping returns improperly focused images, the cropping itself can be disabled from the same theme options (telling WordPress to only shrink the images to fit in the configured values).
