Only include the styling rules that you are customizing in your child theme.

The columns are animated on large devices (computers) but switch to static columns when the screen size is smaller and on tables (which do not support hover events).

If you use a plugin that lets you define multiple featured images per posts, code changes are needed in the theme to handle the extra images.
To maintain the same aspect ratio as the slider, your columns images should be 200 x 80 pixels.

To include social sharing buttons (that let you share your website/pages to social networks) you can use plugins – WordPress repository themes are not even allowed to include such functionality.
To control what social engines see on your homepage (so they don’t randomly grab content), use a SEO plugin that is capable of controlling homepage metas (for example, Yoast).

cryout_meta_hook() is a theme hook so it isn’t used by any plugins. You must have manually hooked content into it somehow. Search your (customized) code for something similar to

and add the optional priority parameter to lower your function’s priority (default is 10):

You may be able configure a featured image for the site’s homepage with a SEO plugin capable of configuring a featured image on the homepage.
