WordPress strips out all HTML tags and formatting when creating the auto-generated excerpts.
If you need markup in your excerpts you will need to write custom manual excerpts.

I doubt it’s possible to make the links appear before their actual backgrounds when the backgrounds are shrunk (as to move the ‘bars’ below the text).

category-ID.php file in a child theme (copy of the default category.php file), and customize it to load a different content template, let’s say:
get_template_part( 'content-featuredgallery' );
You can further customize the structure of this ‘category’ page.Then copy the theme’s content/content.php file to the child theme as child-theme/content-featuredgallery.php and customize its content to only display the elements you want visible.

There are plenty of differences in theme options between the two options so there is no easy way to migrate the options from Mantra to Tempera. You’ll need to re-create your site’s appearance using Tempera’s own options.
Switching themes means re-setting at least the header background image, background image and color and menu location associations (if these were previously set).

If you want the sharing buttons to work in both posts and the theme’s “Blog” template (which is a page) you’ll need to keep the sharing option active on both posts and pages in Jetpack.

- a fix for the “Failed to load content CSS” error with WordPress 4.8
- a revamp for the editor styling which tries to recreate the same appearance of the content as on the frontend into the editor itself (to give a feel about how your content will actually look and fit on the site). This includes the content width and text and background colours.
If you dislike this second change we’ve also put an option under the theme’s Miscellaneous settings (in update 1.6.1.1) with which the editor styling can be turned off.
@DuffyBear, we’ll release a theme update to correct that problem since WordPress 4.8 in Mantra too.

However, if you don’t like this addition to the theme the editor styling can be entirely turned off from the theme’s option under Miscellaneous.

Due to customizer limitation, this image is not displayed under the theme’s Landing Page > Slider settings, but it can be changed by settings a different image there or removed by setting any image in its place and then removing it.

Different sections on the theme’s landing page display different content elements (text areas use pages, the rest of the areas use posts). You can select what to display in various locations (or disable) from the theme’s options.
