There is another GDPR-related problem turning up here in Germany. Lawyers are sending what can tentatively be translated as a cease-and-desist note to website owners using Google Fonts loaded from Google servers. This, according to the interpretation of these lawyers, is not permissible. And website owners are required to pay a penalty of a couple thousand euros…
Is it possible to put a switch into the themes which completely cancels any calls to the Font api, so that Google Fonts cannot be loaded from Google servers? Anyone who wants to use them anyway should then self-host them.
