The site is slow, about 13 seconds to load. After running a speed test we discovered that the custom css file is having trouble executing. It is considered a theme issue. Can this be fixed in Tempera or do I need to switch to a different theme to speed up my site? I edited the theme in the Tempera Settings and in the Edit CSS stylesheet that is part of WordPress. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is it fixable?

Did you try switching to another theme and checking if the theme is actually the problem? Our theme does not create a separate custom css file. Are you using a plugin for custom CSS? Disable all plugins and check your loading times then.

Before making any modifications to your theme we strongly recommend using Child Themes.September 1st, 2014 at 20:51 #27034Mary Ann AschenbrennerI have not tried switching to another theme as this site is live. I am not using a css plugin and only modified the css in the Tempera Theme Settings and Edit CSS provided by WordPress.
Does modifying css in both places create a conflict that requires additional load time?September 9th, 2014 at 17:21 #27123KayCryout Creations mastermindEven if the site is live you can change the theme for a couple of seconds, especially during low traffic hours. It’s the simplest and easiest way to tell if it’s the theme that’s causing the load or not. Switch to Twenty-Fourteen, check your loading time, switch back to Tempera. Nobody will notice 😉

I’d the same problem. Was using Jetpack (as most people do) with the ‘custom css’ editor switched on. Turn out it was the culprit for my custom-css file taking approx a month to load. Turned off the option in jetpack and all’s well now.September 11th, 2014 at 12:13 #27163Glicklyjust a note to the admin for this site… it appears that your blog is auto-approving. Beware of spammers!
December 24th, 2014 at 10:32 #28802Lasisi AfeesI’m having the same issue with custom css. The pingdom speed test reveals this. About 2.4s loading time. When I deactivate the custom css in the jetpack, I saw big difference in my site loading time (i.e reduced).
I was forced to re-activate the plugin as I need the custom css to ensure customised looks of my blog. Any other better alternative?

Sure, I can see you’re using wordpress so just create a child theme and put your custom css into that. Should only take you about 5 mins.
