I untick the box which should not display the search box anymore,but it is still there. I even reset-ed to default settings,but after unticking the box to not show it,it just does not remove.

There can be multiple search form instances in the theme and they are controlled differently.

Are you referring to the search functionality in the menus or in sidebars?
