how can I remove this grey tab?

    Excuse my lack of terminology but how can I remove grey box which appears over the header photo?it is showing either site title and tagline or when I open particular blog post it is showing blog post heading? Do I want the blog post heading to appear right next to the picture not on this box over the header photo? It only relates to my blog as rest is supported by a different theme.
