Hi everyone. I am new to creating a child theme, so please forgive my ignorance.
Love the Tempera theme, and have my site all set up, and it has been live for a few months now. Saw that the theme has available updates, but before I do any updates, I want to save my current theme as a child theme. No major modifications were done to the original theme’s css, except for color changes and other basic changes that were modified through the Tempera Settings area.
I have read the child theme tutorial, but it wasn’t 100% clear to me.
In theory, couldn’t I just go to my ftp program, create a copy of my entire tempera theme folder and rename it as a child theme folder, and activate that?
I also have a saved copy of my exported theme settings saved to my computer (from the Tempera Settings Page).
I appreciate your assistance to get me on the right track.August 26th, 2014 at 20:56 #26927KayCryout Creations mastermindHi!
If you only used the Theme Settings then you don’t need a child theme. Child themes are for those that want modifications that are not possible with the theme settings and so actual theme files would need to be edited and code modified.
Hope this makes things clearer. More info at WordPress: http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes
