In reply to: custom post background
Maggy
Thanks very much for the reply. I hope that someone has some experience with custom post backgrounds. I found one plugin that will work if there is no default background, at least as far as an image goes — not a background color. I added custom css to mantra forcing top right position. Since it won’t work with a default background enabled, the presentation page will have no background and it will also require setting a background on every post. Not ideal. I wish I was more proficient with custom fields.

That’s a shame as the plugins that I’ve tried so far don’t want to work with the other plugins i use, so it would be nice if Mantra could do it for me.

Cryout Creations mastermindIt’s a lot easier to try things out yourself than ask around on the forum. Try a size, see what happens, try another one and keep on going. Don’t be afraid to experiment.

Kay
Cryout Creations mastermindWell if you’re using the Custom Slides option for the slider just delete all the text and title fields. If you’re using another setting add this code to the custom CSS area:
.nivo-caption {display:none;}

Cryout Creations mastermindHi!
That’s a slider in the header. Mantra doesn’t support that, the only slider it supports is in the presentation page. There are however many plugins that you can use to achieve that.

Yeah that’s a bit too much because we’re trying to add the most general and wanted options. What you request is pretty easy to do via CSS styling with a little patience.

Kay
Cryout Creations mastermindHi Richard!
The simplest and easiest way ( not the most correct) would be to actually hide the slider. Add this code to the custom CSS area:
.slider-wrapper {display:none}

Kay
Cryout Creations mastermindIf you got that error, you didn’t copy/paste the right chunk of code. Also, as the theme saves, sanitizes and reads data saved in MySQL tables, just copying some code won’t help. You will have to replace all variables with actual HTML that you want to appear in the column.
Basically it would be a lot easier to just wait for us to implement that someday ( not in a very distant future)

Hello,
I just posted my first post. I want to have the comment/replay area visible and the share buttons. BUT even though I chose to make comments available (by clicking under the post on the edit page) and can see them on the preview page, they will not show up on the blog/main page. Please help.
Thanks!!!
February 8th, 2013 at 00:18 #3530In reply to: Exclude Images from Indentation
Zed
Cryout Creations mastermindWhat you could do is view your pages/posts with the text editor and make sure all <img> tags which you do not want indented are outside the <p> tags.
But you need to check if switching back to the visual editor doesn’t undo this and wrap images in paragraphs again – making you have to do this check every time you edit the text.

I’m having the opposite problem at http://www.gleigh.com/amazing – I have the page set with no sidebars, but my content is squashing down to about a quarter of the content area. In Preview, however the content spreads 100% of the content area. Once published, nope.
Can you please help?
Thanks!

definitio
Didn’t seem likely really but I thought I’d ask…
The indentation is a great feature, particularly for long text; distinguishing the paragraphs makes reading easier.
Thank you

Cryout Creations mastermindNot quite.
Wordpress’ rich editor usually encapsulates <img> tags inside <p> tags (which have the indentation applied to them)

I think this stopped working when I updated to the new version.
None of the news posts I add now show an image when you look at news categories, the images appear ok on the actual posts.
Thanks.

Ok I gave it a go, I copied the column4 code pasted it after column 4 and changed all the 4’s to 5’s,
I then saved the new php file and renamed the old one.old
I get the following error,
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ENDIF in /home/elitelea/public_html/main/wp-content/themes/mantra/includes/theme-frontpage.php on line 291

Zed, thanks so much for your extremely helpful reply – I’ve successfully got rid of the WordPress search box by following your instructions.
I’ve just had your emails – via a site on Hostgator. So…..they have delivered them – eventually!
I had no idea I had a stray dash until you pointed it out. I’ve taken your welcome advice and followed instructions to get rid of it. But it’s still there. Have cleaned browser cache etc but it’s showing up in a variety of browsers. Anything else I could try?
Thanks again,
Kate.
P.S. Happy to buy you amazing folks a coffee anytime – just wasn’t sure when you wanted one!

Hi Zed,
Thanks for your reply.
No, those images are correct as I want them.

and

Are also correct,
BUT

and

Do not display the images when viewed as news categories?
Why do some display the images but others don’t?
Thank you.
Peter.

Cryout Creations mastermindHopefully you’ve received the replies I wrote today, but if not, I’m copying them here as well (as there’s no private information in them):
The search bar question:
That is the default WordPress “search page”. As you can see even in their demo, http://twentyelevendemo.wordpress.com/?s=search&submit=Search the big search bar in the middle of the page is right there.
If you don’t like that, you can remove the form from inside mantra/search.php.
Just delete or comment out get_search_form();Just remember a child theme would be better to implement your customizations as you will not lose them in updates.
And the other question(s):
I see no pending outgoing emails so our emails must be blocked by your email server. Your server doesn’t like our host/ip 🙁
And no, you don’t have to donate each time you have a question to ask. Just use the same transaction id, or reference your previous ticket number (so we can find that easily), or just write that you previously donated but don’t remember any numbers (and we’ll do the searching instead) 🙂
PS: I recommend reading question C11 in the FAQs on how to properly hide the site title without leaving a stray dash in the browser title…

Cryout Creations mastermindYou can display any number between 0 and 4 columns – see “Number of columns:” in the Presentation page settings for that.

Cryout Creations mastermindIf you want to do more than the “default”, you’ll have to learn CSS… and HTML too 🙂
W3C has information for anything concerning HTML and CSS – see thead and class.
And yes, I mean the custom CSS field under Miscellaneous in Mantra Settings, the place where you can type in all your custom CSS so you don’t have to change any theme files.

Cryout Creations mastermindIf the image URLs are correct, the slider not working is usually caused by a javascript error.

Cryout Creations mastermindYou can only type filtered HTML into the presentation page fields. Shortcodes don’t work (yet).
There’s no other way of doing this (currently) than to modify the theme-frontpage.php file and hard-code HTML or shortcodes.

Cryout Creations mastermindYes, IE 8 is the lowest we go.
IE 8 in compatibility mode is in fact IE 7, and IE 7 is insane to create websites for… I can’t even debug a simple CSS on it…
Nonetheless, I think I know what is causing this and I’ll try to find a workaround (which doesn’t break the website for all other browsers).

David Lewis
Hi
Great theme, lots of customisation. However, I have a small problem. I’m using a subdomain http://www.s316771102.websitehome.co.uk/ to develop a new site on 1&1 running PHP5.4. It’s a new WP install (30 Jan 2013), so latest WP and Mantra. My issue is that the presentation page slider steadfastly refuses to display the 5th (i.e. last listed) image. I have varied the listing order of my images (all in the slider folder) to ensure the problem is not image related (e.g. size) and whichever is listed last, that’s the one it won’t display. I have disabled all my plugins so I don’t think there is a conflict there. Same result in IE, Chrome, Firefox. Almost looks like it can only count to 4… Hope you can help
Thanks for your assistance
David
